Pickleball Court Cost in India
The cheapest way into the sports venue business — and the one with the shortest payback, if you get the site right. Real costs, real earnings, and the one risk nobody selling you a court will mention.
The short answer
A pickleball court costs ₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh in India. On a sound existing slab you are near the bottom of that range; pouring a new base and choosing cushioned acrylic puts you at the top. A two-court venue costing ₹9.5 lakh pays back in about 11 months at 45% utilisation — the fastest return of any court type we build.
Four Ways to Build, Cheapest First
What you already own decides your number. The single biggest variable is whether you have usable concrete.
Acrylic court on an existing slab
The cheapest real court in Indian sport. If your concrete is sound and level, you are buying surface, net, lights and fencing — nothing structural.
New concrete base + acrylic court
Includes excavation, sub-base, the slab and its 28-day cure. That cure is non-negotiable — acrylic laid on green concrete will blister.
Cushioned acrylic (premium outdoor)
Extra rubber layers under the colour coats. Noticeably kinder on knees, and the difference players cite when choosing between two nearby venues.
Indoor court in an existing hall
Weather-proof and therefore reliably bookable, but you are paying rent on covered space that badminton would fill at a higher hourly rate.
Where the Money Goes
Per court, for an outdoor acrylic build. Ask any contractor to quote in this shape — a single lump sum hides which corner is being cut.
| Component | Cost per court | What to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Acrylic surface system (5–8 coats) | ₹80K – ₹1.6L | Resurfacing cycle is 5–7 years, so treat it as recurring, not one-off. |
| Concrete base (if not existing) | ₹1L – ₹2L | Needs a 1% slope for drainage. Flat slabs pond and destroy the surface. |
| Perimeter fencing (3m / 10ft) | ₹50K – ₹1.2L | Chasing balls between courts kills session flow more than owners expect. |
| LED lighting (4–6 fixtures) | ₹40K – ₹80K | Mount at the sides, never the ends. Evening slots are your revenue. |
| Net posts & tournament net | ₹12K – ₹30K | Ground-socketed posts — portable frames drift out of tension within weeks. |
| Wind screen / inter-court netting | ₹15K – ₹40K | Also cuts a surprising amount of the noise carry between adjacent courts. |
| Line marking & finishing | ₹8K – ₹20K | Usually bundled with the surface. Confirm it is, before you sign. |
| Typical total per court | ₹2L – ₹5L | Lower end assumes existing concrete; upper end includes a new base and cushioned surface. |
Pickleball Court Surfaces Compared
| Surface | Cost per court | Life | Feel | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Acrylic on concrete | ₹80K – ₹1.6L | 5 – 7 yrs | Firm | Standard outdoor commercial court |
| Cushioned acrylic | ₹1.5L – ₹2.5L | 7 – 10 yrs | Best | Premium venues and older players |
| Modular interlocking tile | ₹1.8L – ₹3L | 10 – 12 yrs | Medium | Rooftops and poor-drainage sites |
| Synthetic turf | ₹60K – ₹1.2L | 4 – 6 yrs | Slow | Casual play only — the bounce is wrong |
Avoid synthetic turf for a paid court. It is cheap and it looks the part, but the ball dies on it — the bounce is wrong and regular players will not rebook. It is the most common false economy we see on new pickleball builds.
Space You Actually Need
The court is small. The footprint is not — run-off is where beginners under-plan and end up with courts nobody wants to play a full game on.

The Noise Problem
Pickleball is loud in a specific, carrying way. The paddle-on-ball strike is a sharp crack of roughly 70 decibels at source, repeated every second or two, and it travels considerably further than the softer thud of tennis. It is the sound profile people complain about, not the volume.
Venues sited close to housing have lost their 7–10pm slots to noise complaints — which are precisely the hours the business depends on. This is the single most common way a financially sound pickleball venue fails in practice.
What actually works
- Site at least 50m from the nearest residential window where you can
- Acoustic screening on the fence line facing housing (₹40K–₹2L)
- Dense landscaping as a second barrier — it helps more than it looks like it should
- Quieter paddle and ball specs for evening sessions, if you supply equipment
- Talk to immediate neighbours before you build, not after the first complaint
What a Pickleball Court Earns
A two-court venue: ₹9.5 lakh to build, 3,000 sq ft leased, 14 operating hours a day. Fixed monthly cost is ₹1.25 lakh in all three rows — only occupancy and realised rate change.
| Scenario | Utilisation | Realised rate | Monthly revenue | Net / month | Payback |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Slow | 35% | ₹500/hr | ₹1.47L | ₹0.22L | ~43 months |
| Realistic | 45% | ₹550/hr | ₹2.08L | ₹0.83L | ~11 months |
| Strong | 55% | ₹580/hr | ₹2.68L | ₹1.43L | ~7 months |
Monthly operating costs
- Rent (3,000 sq ft @ ₹15/sq ft)₹45,000
- Staff (1 floor + part-time)₹30,000
- Electricity₹18,000
- Balls, nets, consumables₹8,000
- Marketing₹15,000
- Platform commissions₹9,000
- Total₹1,25,000
Low capex cuts both ways
Because the build is cheap, payback at good utilisation is startlingly fast — seven months is real. But the fixed costs do not shrink with the capex. At 35% utilisation the same venue takes over three years, because ₹1.25 lakh of rent and staff has to come out of whatever you sell.
Pickleball rewards filling off-peak hours more sharply than any other court type.

Six Costs Nobody Quotes You
Concrete cure time
28 days
A new slab cannot take acrylic for four weeks. Contractors who promise otherwise are setting up a surface failure you will pay for twice.
Drainage slope
₹20K – ₹60K
Outdoor courts need a 1% fall. Correcting a flat slab afterwards means grinding or re-pouring.
Acoustic screening
₹40K – ₹2L
The most commonly skipped line item, and the one that closes venues. See the noise section below.
Resurfacing reserve
₹80K every 5–7 yrs
Acrylic is a wear item. Venues that do not reserve for it end up with courts players abandon.
Fencing height
₹15K – ₹50K
Under 3m and your staff spend the evening retrieving balls from neighbouring plots.
Floodlight glare
₹10K – ₹40K
End-mounted lights blind players on serve. Fixing mounting positions later means rewiring.
Pickleball Court Cost — Common Questions
How much does it cost to build a pickleball court in India?
₹2 lakh to ₹5 lakh. With a sound existing slab, an acrylic surface with net, lights and fencing lands close to ₹2 lakh. Pouring a new base, choosing cushioned acrylic and fencing the full perimeter takes you to ₹5 lakh.
What size is a pickleball court?
6.1m × 13.4m (20ft × 44ft), the same for singles and doubles. Add run-off: 9.1m × 18.3m (30ft × 60ft) is the recommended footprint and 7.3m × 15.8m the practical minimum. Two courts fit comfortably in roughly 3,000 sq ft.
Is pickleball cheaper to build than badminton?
Considerably. ₹2–5 lakh against ₹5–10 lakh, because pickleball works outdoors on a coated slab while badminton needs a covered hall with 7.5m+ clear height. It is the cheapest genuine entry into the sports venue business in India.
How much does a pickleball court earn per month?
₹400–₹900 per hour depending on city and slot. At a realistic 45% utilisation one court grosses around ₹1 lakh a month, and a two-court venue ₹2–2.7 lakh.
Is the noise really a problem?
Yes, and it is the risk most first-time owners discover too late. The paddle strike is a sharp crack near 70dB at source that carries much further than tennis. Courts near housing draw genuine complaints and sometimes lose their evening slots entirely. Screen it or site away from residential windows.
How long does construction take?
Two to four weeks on an existing slab, most of it surface coats and cure time. A new concrete base adds three to four weeks including the mandatory 28-day cure.
